Lombard! :-)
Alla fine sono arrivati anche in Italia i nuovi, attesissimi portatili Apple. Da ieri si possono vedere sugli scaffali dei negozi della penisola. :-)
La prima spedizione dovrebbe coprire tutti gli ordini e da settimana prossima dovrebbe esserci una buona disponibilita' sia di 400MHz, sia di 333MHz.
Prestissimo una recensione sul POC !

Lombard 14 GB HD e il DVD KIT
...ecco come fa il Woz !
Uno dei difetti che ha Lombard, secondo il mio parere, è avere un HD di limitate capacità al confronto dei WallStreet. Apple da come opzione per il Lombard un HD da 10 Gb della IBM mentre per il WallStreet è disponibile uno più capiente da 14Gb... qualcuno però riesce a metterlo anche nel Lombard....ecco la lettera di Woz:
The other night some friends and I took apart a Lombard and looked into
theproblem where there's plenty of room and more for the 17.5 mm drives
(14GB) but didn't use it. I've heard reasons for this from heat ventilation
toweight to shock protection. I won't tell you which of these was the most
official excuse.
We sanded off 1/16" from the 4 support legs of the Lombard drive bay. I
didn't have my dremel tool handy or it would have been easier. We removed
the foam strip that is glued to the bottom of the bay, but could easily
have replaced it with a larger strip of anything soft to sit under the
bay.We moved the screw holes for the drive slightly lower. We inserted the
14 GB drive in the bay and fastened the 4 screws. We then inserted this
assembly into the Lombard and it fit fine. It had the same shock protection
resilience as before, which is much more than any prior PowerBook.
Everything fit together perfectly without having to force things.. The
keyboard fit fine and didn't bulge.
All we did was sand off a bit. I wonder if Apple engineering considered
this.

Riflessioni del sabato mattina ! :-)
Una riflessione in questa calda mattina di tranquillita' estiva, mentre mi godo la liberta' di un PowerBook unplugged in una corte sui navigli, fra verde, uccellini e cani che giocano. Lombard tarda ad essere consegnato ed il progetto P1 e' sempre piu' misterioso... intanto il mio WallStreet a 250MHz continua a fare il suo lavoro piu' che bene: ha superato l'anno di vita, e' cresciuto in RAM, ha un HD nuovo e piu' capiente ed e' acceso dalle 8 alle 20 ore al giorno, tutti i santi giorni da piu' di un anno. E' passato con agilita' all'8.5, si e' ingoiato tutte le beta dell'8.6 ed ora e' pronto a Sonata... gli manca solo il DVD... ma qui in Italia misteriosamente non c'e' modo di averne uno, nonostante fosse stato annuciato e mostrato a SMAU dello scorso anno durante una conferenza stampa. Per vie ufficiali almeno... il POC si sta industriando per averne qualcuno dai cugini Americani, percui non disperate e se volete trasformare il vostro PowerBook in un Cinema portatile provate a scrivere a fab@poc.it e tenete d'occhio le news. :-)
